S & H Farm and Vineyard Supply was founded in 1991 by Frank W. Hobson, Jr. and N. Alexander Shugart in the same location on Country Club Road, in Yadkinville, NC they occupy today.
 Frank and Alex both came from farming backgrounds, knew each other growing up, and after college ended up working for the same fertilizer company. As, Frank and Alex began assuming more and more of the farming responsibilities for their respective family farms, they decided that the most effective way for them to embrace the farming opportunities available to them was that they become full time farmers and open a farm supply business that would supply local farmers, including themselves, with a full range of farming supplies and crop protection chemicals (insecticides, fungicides, herbicides), fertilizers and seeds plus some custom spreading and spraying services of lime and fertilizers.
Frank and Alex each expanded their farming operations and by the late nineties when the demise of tobacco seemed imminent, both were growing several hundred acres of tobacco, along with the rotation crops of corn, wheat and soybeans . At that point Alex hedged with the addition of multiple chicken houses and Frank ventured into the viticulture by planting 35 acres of vineyards which became the bedrock for a winery now known as RagApple Lassie Vineyards.
And each time, Frank needed supplies for the vineyard, he found himself ordering from everywhere in the United States but North Carolina and the surrounding states so - viola --- Frank realized that S & H needed to add viticulture supplies to its list of products. Hence, vineyards owners as well as farmers can now source their supplies locally.
Because Frank’s heart is in farming and his soul is rooted to the earth. it is his nature to seek out any information that will help him. And this very desire to learn has made him the unofficial guru of vines and soils because he is so willing to take the time to share what he knows .
